Sexy Remark

Boy.. I  love politicians and bureaucrats. Their timely controversial statements provide fodder for my blogs. The recent statement was made by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women at a function held by a women organisation. She said and I quote "Boys pass comments on girls terming them sexy but sexy means beautiful and charming. We should not see it in negative sense," When she invited the ire of women organizations and others, she did not apologize but clarified that her remark was made in the broader context since she was addressing the youth and that it did not apply to strangers or roadside Romeos who use the word sexy to tease girls which is condemnable. Is she right or wrong?

The Merriam Webster dictionary offers 2 meanings
1: sexually suggestive or stimulating : erotic
2: generally attractive or interesting : appealing  ( eg- a sexy brochure

Things are changing and so are the meanings. We adopt a lot of things from the West, but not their tolerance to Freedom of Speech. The song 'Sexy and I know it' is a chart buster and was performed live by the group LMFAO (Laugh My Fucking Ass Off) at the recently held Grammy awards.

If someone called my blog sexy.. I wouldn't sulk 'cos its sexy and I know it.

What women want?

"Women demand mobile phones, they are not demanding toilets... Sanitation is the much more difficult issue," said the Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh at the launch of Asia-Pacific Regional Millenium Development Goals Meet.

His loose comment may have left many uncomfortable and may also have forced him to offer subsequent explanations, but the fact of the matter is sixty percent of people practice open air defecation in a country which has 700 million mobile phones.

Women demanding toilets are far and few and may appear as headlines. In Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, tribal woman Anita Nrrae’s insistence on having a toilet at her in-law’s place had not only compelled her husband to take up the issue with the panchayat at his village but also made Sulabh International adopt Anita’s village for its “Total Cleanliness Drive”.

But it is not a paradox as Mr Ramesh says. There is a difference between a need and a want.  A need is something you have to have.  A want is something you would like to have. That's basic concept of economics. . A child needs to have proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. But it  wants to have toys and ice cream.  Do we blame the child and shame it in public or give him what he needs?

Does the State need to perceive the needs of the people or blame the people for not realizing their needs? Whose responsibility is it anyway?

Now that the we have had all this shit...  we should now demand for toilets to flush it down !!

To be or not-to-be ... raped?

Not very long ago, a senior police officer in Andhra Pradesh went public stating that women in flimsy and fashionable clothes provoke rape. In his favor, one could argue that he meant sheer and clinging fabrics, low-slung jeans, low-cut tops, bare midriffs, short skirts and liberally applied make-up.

So, do clothes make all the difference between an uneventful occasion and one which could provoke a sexual assault?  If so, can we find the best Anti Rape Attire?

From my side, I humbly propose  TIGHT JEANS . Yes.. it is an ideal anti-rape device, a kind of chastity belt. And when I say tight jeans, I mean the really tight ones ..  the ones that most teenagers wear, wherein they have to  wriggle their bottoms to get into it anf they would require either Mom's, sister's or their boyfriends to help them get out of it.   Most PYT ( Pretty / Poor Young Things)  have bad attitudes and nerve and very little else... but wearing tight jeans is ingenous. I personally believe tight jeans is an excellent idea to prevent unsolicited sex.

Let us compare raping a female in tight jeans versus one in a saree. Remember the good old Bollywood, Tamil or Telugu  movies when a herione had to be raped, she will invariably be in a saree.  It was so damn easy for the villian, as easy as unwrapping a birthday gift. Sometime even unwrapping a gift may be more difficult.. you may need a scissor or paper knife, but not for raping a woman in a saree.  It was just wham, bam, thank you ma'am types. BTW, I can't remember any recent movie with rape scenes. Wondering what the reason could be ..  an increase in the willingness quotient? Back to my case. moreover saree has a lot of mid riff and chest show. And minus safety pins, its just a miracle how a saree stays there. So definitely a saree has more theorotical and practical reason for inciting rape.

Once upon a time, long long ago,  women wore a bikini-top along with an angavastram tied around the waist and not very long ago, women in Kerala did wear just a blouse and mundu and yet we heard of no such atrocities. Clothes have no role to play when the mind is sick. But sadly our cops think otherwise.

Meanwhile here is my take

If rape is inevitable, enjoy
If rape is evitable, wear tight jeans
